5 Simple Tips to Keep Your Low-Maintenance Laker Pontoon Looking Brand New.
Your Laker Pontoon is built tough with all-aluminum, no-rot construction for years of hassle-free enjoyment. Because our boats are designed to be incredibly low-maintenance, these five simple, proactive steps are all it takes to keep your investment looking and performing its best for a lifetime of adventures.
1. A Quick Freshwater Rinse & Protect
After each use, a quick rinse with fresh water is the easiest way to wash away lake grime or salt and keep the finish sparkling. For a deeper clean, use a biodegradable, marine-safe boat soap and a soft-bristle brush.
Pro-Tip: To protect your vinyl seats from the Georgia sun, wipe them down with a UV protectant spray like 303 Aerospace Protectant after cleaning. This prevents fading and cracking and keeps them looking new.
2. Avoid Freezing Conditions
Do not leave the boat in a frozen lake. The constant expansion and contraction from changes in temperature can put stress on the aluminum and compromise the integrity of the welds over time. Proper off-season storage is crucial for longevity.
3. Check Your Gear is Ship-Shape
Before heading out, it's always a good idea to make sure everything is just as you left it. Check that the gate latches operate smoothly and give the rail stanchions a quick wiggle to ensure they're secure. A quick glance over the tough, non-slip deck ensures you're ready for a full day of fun without a second thought.
4. Keep the Battery Terminals Happy
A healthy battery means reliable power. Once a season, check that the battery terminals are clean and tight. If you see any fuzzy corrosion, it's easy to clean off with a wire terminal brush. Using the included onboard charger after your trips keeps the battery in peak condition, so your trolling motor has all the power it needs, every time.
5. Get the Most from Your Motor
Your motor is built for reliability. The single most useful thing you can do is a quick visual check of the propeller after each use. Removing any tangled fishing line or weeds is a 30-second task that prevents bigger issues and ensures you get maximum efficiency and power on the water. For gas motors, follow the simple winterization steps in your owner's manual.
