Our Day on the Laker 712 DLX
Big Fun in a Small Package: Our Day on the Laker 712 DLX
Discovering that the perfect day on the water doesn’t require a massive boat, just a smart one.
The sun was high, the cooler was packed, and the lake was calling. Our vessel for the day was the Laker 712 DLX, a pontoon that immediately strikes you with its practical, all-aluminum construction. We were looking for a day of casual fishing, lazy cruising, and just soaking up the summer vibes, and this compact pontoon looked more than ready for the task.

Effortless Handling and Surprising Stability
Getting the 712 DLX on the water was a breeze. Its size makes it incredibly easy to manage, even at a busy boat ramp. Once we were out on the open water, its performance was impressive. The welded, two-chambered pontoons provide a stable and secure-feeling ride, handling wakes from larger boats with ease. Maneuvering into tight fishing spots near the reeds was simple, thanks to the responsive steering and included 55lb thrust Minn Kota trolling motor.
The Perfect Angler's Outpost
For a fishing trip, the 712 DLX is brilliantly equipped. The two high-back folding chairs are comfortable for hours of waiting for a bite, and the spacious port and starboard corner lounge seats meant there was plenty of room for everyone to relax. Our model was equipped with the optional 20-gallon aerated livewell, and we put it to immediate use. The multiple rod holders kept our gear secure and within reach, and the 7'x12' deck had plenty of space for our tackle boxes and cooler.

The deluxe seating and rod holders make for a perfect fishing setup.
More Than Just a Fishing Boat
After a successful morning of fishing, it was time to relax. We deployed the included bimini top, which provided a generous patch of shade—a true necessity on a hot afternoon. We dropped anchor in a quiet cove, and the boat served as a fantastic swim platform. The flat, stable deck with its non-slip coating and optional under-deck ladder make it easy to get in and out of the water. We enjoyed lunch, cruised along the shoreline, and simply enjoyed the peace of being on the lake. The 712 DLX proved it’s a versatile boat, perfect for a couple or a small family looking to create some memories.
